El Sotol or Sereque derives from the náhuatl word TZOTOLLIN which means “sweet of the head” and is a distillate of Dasylirion traditionally produced in the Sierra Madre Oriental and the Sierra Madre Occidental of Mexico. It obtained the designation of origin in 2002 in the states of Chihuahua, Coahuiila and Durango.
